Ombligo

After several episodes of absolute sincerity, Rafa becomes the outcast of his large ultra-catholic family by not accepting the hierarchy and traditions they tried to impose him. In the form of absurd comedy, Ombligo dismembers the snobby imposition of religion and fleshes out the stupidity behind the concept of “Spanish family” inherited from Franco’s dictatorship. With a peculiar mise-en-scene, the film dolls the bells of those who grew in the first years of liberty in Spain.

When student Li Jiumei meets her future husband, Huang Tao, she is young and happy. Her daughter, Huang Xiaoyu hasn’t been born yet, but the secrets they hide are already growing between them. When Xiaoyu is a teenager, Huang Tao is caught with a man. Later in her adulthood, already pregnant and with residency in the US, she comes back to visit her parents, and everything explodes.
